A SUCCESS STORY

Sigma VIG, Kosovo Branch, began its activity in August 2001 as a branch of a private insurance company in Albania and in September 2004 received the license to operate in Kosovo. In September 2007, it became part of Vienna Insurance Group after the acquisition of 75% +1 share by TBIH, while in December 2008, Vienna Insurance Group purchased 87% +1 share of SIGMA's capital. In January 2015, the merger with Interalbanian in Albania was formalized, creating SIGMA Interalbanian Vienna Insurance Group and expanding the sales network while improving expertise in both basic and specialized insurance products in the market.

ABOUT VIENNA INSURANCE GROUP

The roots of VIG date back to 1824, when on December 24 the "Wechselseitige k.k. privilegierte Brandschaden Versicherungs-Anstalt" was founded, one of the three predecessor companies of today’s group. The insurance industry was still in its early stages but was experiencing a boom in new foundations, and due to wooden construction techniques, the main focus was fire insurance. Founder Georg Ritter von Högelmüller, an officer in the Imperial Army, brought the idea of fire insurance from the Kingdom of Saxony to Austria and, after long efforts since 1803, received a license for "Wechselseitige" in 1824. It was launched with the involvement of 364 public figures, including the Prince-Archbishop of Vienna and the Administrator of the Archdiocese of Salzburg, laying the foundations of good relations between VIG and the Catholic Church. In 1839, the second predecessor company "Allgemeine wechselseitige Capitalien- und Rentenversicherungsanstalt" was founded by mathematics professor Josef Salomon, which was later renamed "Janus wechselseitige Lebensversicherungs-Anstalt" and expanded into regions of the Austrian Monarchy and German principalities such as Berlin. In 1898, the third predecessor company "Städtische Kaiser Franz Joseph-Jubiläums-Lebens-und Renten-Versicherungs-Anstalt" was created as part of the 50th Jubilee of Emperor Franz Joseph, offering life insurance and pensions to low-income citizens and relocating in 1914 to Tuchlauben, Vienna. Today, Vienna Insurance Group (VIG), headquartered in Vienna, is a leader in insurance in Central and Eastern Europe, with over 50 insurance companies and pension funds in 30 countries, serving over 32 million clients with the help of 30,000 employees. VIG was one of the first European groups to expand into CEE markets after 1989, becoming a regional leader and generating over half of its business volume from this market. VIG follows a long-term strategy based on stability, expertise, and a local, multi-brand approach, supporting regional entrepreneurship and being close to customers through the individual knowledge and strengths of each brand.
